A Meeting, A Survey and An Interview

As many of you know and we shared in our last post, we are pursing adoption through the Foster Care system.  Many of you have been curious as to where we are in the process..... only 30 minutes until the Packers kick off so here we go....

1.  Informational Meeting-  At the end of June we attended a two hour informational meeting here in Eau Claire.  This meeting is put on by Lutheran Social Services and is the first step of the process.  We had attended the same meeting 2 years earlier but wanted to make sure everything was fresh as we began the process.  A few things had changed so we were glad we went.

2.  Parent Interest Survey- This 8 page survey marked the start of the paperwork process and more or less gave the agency an idea of what type of child/children would be a good match for our family.  It generated a lot of thought and discussion as it proposed a wide range of mild to severe physical, emotional, social, behavioral, and mental challenges our potential child/children may face.  After prayerfully hanging onto it for a few weeks, in mid July we finally sealed the envelope and sent it in.

3.  State Interview (9/18)-  We were told that we should expect to hear from someone within 3-4 weeks of sending in our survey.  Our 3-4 weeks turned into 8-9 weeks.  In the meantime, we were waiting on our adoption announcements to come in the mail, and the day after they arrived, I was sitting at the table praying over them when the phone rang.  It was the social worker calling to set up our interview.  Call it what you want, but for us it was clearly a reminder  that God's timing is perfect and will continue to be perfect in this.  We just have to remember to trust that. The interview itself went well.  It was at our house and basically the social worker had a list of questions she worked through to get a better feel for who we are, what our intent in all of this is, and to answer questions that we have.

So that brings us up to speed (which is good because the Packer Game has started....).  Our next steps involve a large packet of paperwork including things like background checks and physicals, as well as a few classes we will need to get signed up for.  Thanks for reading....and Go Pack Go!
